Guitar lessons

Leah started guitar lessons today! We found a really great teacher for her - ME!!! hahaha

Over the last few weeks she has been talking about learning guitar so we made a deal that every Monday at 4pm she would go to guitar lessons with me. If she enjoys it and keeps it up we will find a real teacher for her after Christmas.

It went really well today and I think she picked it up quickly. She learnt G, C and D so she has lots ot practising to do before next Mondays lesson. :-)

Wow, I had guitar lessons in primary school, I kind of enjoyed it however the only thing I could play was The Drunken Sailor. I'm sure she will pick it up very quickly, she has a very patient teacher.

Good luck Leah! I'm sure you will learn quickly and maybe some day will outperform your mum..hehe!

Allan just brought his guitar to school yesterday to sing with the kids. One of the kids later said he was excited to have a rockstar as a teacher haha!

I remember ‘trying’ to learn guitar in P7 but it didn’t go well. The guitar was really small and I wasn’t very musical. I’m surprised I wasn’t kicked out of class. Haha! A thought just came to me. I remember playing the recorder at Deramore. Well I just moved my fingers but didn’t blow into the mouthpiece. I hadn’t a clue what I was doing.

hahahaha I remember learning the recorder as well Karen. I loved learning it, it was much better than just singing songs.

Do you remember one of the songx we used to sing in music -it was about the titantic...but it was written to a really happy, jolly tune - I remember the chorus "Husbands and wives, little children lost their lives, it was sad when the great ship went down." and the tune just did not match the words cause you really wanted to get up and dance a jig to the tune yet the words were soooo sad!! haha

I do remember that song Laura. You're right the music was great but the song was so sad.

Do you remember Lily the Pink?

We'll drink a drink a drink
To Lily the pink the pink the pink
The savior of the human race.
She invented medicinal compound.
Most efficacious in every case.

This is going to be stuck in my head for days now haha!

I’m still reminiscing.

Do you remember some of the books we read in English Literature…Juno & the Paycock, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty & of course The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

I loved those.

When did you do English Lit at Deramore? We only did English, I asked to do Lit and was told no. I didn't do any of those books, would've loved to have read all those. I also asked if we could be taught grammar and was told no. What a great school!!!! I would never have said no to my pupils like that, if I couldn't do them in class I certainly would've offered something at lunch time or after school. Disgraceful!!!

Yes I do remember those books - I loved english literature...didnt you do it pauline? and Lilly the Pink hahahaha now that song will be stuck in my head all day too!!

Pauline I did English Lit and English Lang at Deramore too. I think I know why you didnt though. The year I was in 5th year was the last year of O'levels. You were the first year to do GCSE's and thats why the subjects were different. With GCSE's English is combined.

I also remember reading Lord of the Flies, but it freaked me out a bit....that boys/people could be so horrible to each other.
I remember also reading one where I imagined the whole inside of the cottage...I cant remember the title but it was about a lady living in a cottage and I could just see her wee cottage and all the furniture and I wanted a cottage just like what I could see!! Funny what you remember from school. Hey Karen do you remember we were always together in Physics and our experiments NEVER worked out...Mr Hanne used to despair with us!! haha and also remember doing tuck shop and drawing a Christmas picture on Mr Hannes blackboard - we got free from other classes to do that!! haha LIfe sure was good!! I loved those school days!!
