There are big ships and small ships......

but the best ship of all is friendship!

Today I met up with my "old " friend Rhona. It was time for our monthly chit chat over a hot chocolate. The weather was lovely and we were able to sit outside the cafe with our hot chocolate. It was so wonderful seeing her and catching up again. It really did my heart good. When I left her today I thought about how blessed I am to have her in my life. How blessed I am to have all my friends in my life (yes, also you blog friends!)Thanks Rhona for reminding me of this today!! Friendship is such a special thing.

I found some quotes about friendship that I thought were good....

A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be.

Friendship isn't a big thing - it's a million little things.

Only your real friends will tell you when your face is dirty.

The antidote for fifty enemies is one friend.

A loyal friend laughs at your jokes when they're not so good, and sympathizes with your problems when they're not so bad.

The most I can do for my friend is simply be her friend.

The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart.

A friend knows the song in my heart and sings it to me when my memory fails.

The best kind of friend is the one you could sit on a porch with, never saying a word, and walk away feeling like that was the best conversation you've had.

A true friend is one who thinks you are a good egg even if you are half-cracked. haha

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. (Thanks Rhona for rekindling that inner spirit in me today:-)

Vincent Van Gogh...

.....I will never be, but it has sure been fun trying!!

I have been away this weekend on a course. A man from our church is a fantastic water colour painter. He held a course in February for a group of us. This weekend he held the follow up course.

I think painting with water colours is sooooo hard compared to acryl but I really want to learn. So you know the old saying - if at once you dont succeed, try, try again!! Well I think I will be trying from now until the day I die!! Even though the pictures didnt turn out so well, I had sooo much fun being there. The people are lovely and we just enjoy being together.

So you want to see what I did....well, I dont think they are that good, so I dont really want to post them, but I suppose one cant do that can one????!!! I mean, I just cant post the good things in life and not the bad, so here goes!!!
The one above was fun to do, it was a special techic that I want to try out some more!
When I came home yesterday I was still in the mood to paint so I tried a few more pictures.....

I think the problem is my tools. I bought cheap paints (typical me! - its the scottish blood in me!!) and cheap paint brushes, so I think I need to get myself a proper set of water paints and brushes. ....but then again another saying comes to mind! A bad workman always blames his tools!! oops:-) hahaha

Its been all go....

...this week has been all go!!!

Monday afternoon there was excitement again in The Rasmussen home. My friend Jette rang me just as I was finishing work. She wanted to know if we would like to move to a rented farm house with them. It`s just typical of Jette!! Nearly every time I get content or do someting in our apartment she comes along with some idea about moving!! haha So Monday late afternoon we headed out to see the farm house with her, Philip and the kids.

It was a big farm house divided in two. It cost the same as our apartment to rent, so everything looked promising. When we arrived at the place we were amazed at the beauty, the house looked fantastic, sat on top of a hill, and the views were breathtaking. We were all getting really excited. Then Kristian talked to the man who owned the place, he was only renting it out for 2 years, max 3. So that put a bit of a damper on things. But we were open, if the house fitted our needs we were willing to maybe take the chance and move for just 3 years.

The house was beautiful inside, but it was just a bit too small for our needs. Even though it was bigger than our apartment, our apartment felt bigger. So it ended with that both Kristian and I didnt feel any peace about it. Sara was with us, and she was ready to move - she loved the place. but we turned it down. It was fun to see. Jette and Philip want to rent one part of the house, so if it all works out we can visit them ALOT and enjoy lots of lovely BBQ´s!!!

Tuesday evening Anne came by for a spontanous visit. It was soooo good to see her! It has been ages since we last were together, so we had lots of catching up to do. I was able to put together a quick cake just before she arrived - a very fattening one!!! and we enjoyed every piece of it!! hahaha

Wednesday Leah was at her choir practise. The choir were singing at a church service that started at 5.30pm, in one of the state churches. I decided to go along. The choir sang fantastic, Leah had to sing solo in one of the verses, she did well. It was such a blessing to be there, the songs the choir sang had really powerful words, so it did my wee heart good!

Tonight I have been at a Sunday school meeting. We started by eating dinner together. We have such a great bunch of people who work with the children in the church. It was a very productive evening.

Now I am soooo ready for bed!!

A special day for all....

Leah has had a special theme week at school. The whole school was divided up into groups and each group had a theme to work on. Leah was working in the "Book Cafe". Here everyone worked all week long at writing stories and making books, also cakes and cookies were made. Then this afternoon there was open house in the school. People could come and look around at what the kids had made. We off course had to visit the "Book Cafe." The room was turned into a cosy cafe. Small tables set up around the place. Leah along with some friends was serving behind the counter. Here we bought tea and coffee and had some wonderful cookies (they were really delicious!) We also bought a "book" that was written by Leah herself. (Still have to read it though!)

Then today its our Queens 70th birthday. We really do have a lovely Queen. All week long there was celebrations for her! (She must be exhausted with all the things she has done!!)

Then tonight there is a private party at her summer castle. The first part of the party is being televised and I have just watched the speech from her husband. It was beautiful. He started his speech "My dear Daisy" but our Queen is called Margrethe. Thats when Kristian explained that this was his nickname for her. I never knew that!!! Aahhh - I think that is beautiful. So romantic!!! (Now I want Kristian to find a nickname for me!!!! hahahaha)

Date night....

My husband totally surprised me tonight. He invited me out on a date night telling me that I had to be ready for him coming home from work.

Well, as it turned out, I wasnt quite ready when he came home! - I had a problem fitting into my trousers and tops!!!! Everything was too tight!! Anyway I found something in the end and off we went to paint the town red...as you say!!!

We ate dinner at one of our favourite Italian restaurants. The cook sings while he makes the food!! and they even speak a little Italian as they serve you. With my imaginatin, I was no longer in Denmark but in romantic Italy for the evening!!! haha

We stuffed our faces!!! The food was delicious! Then it was off to see a movie. It was premier night for the film "Date night". Kristian had booked us tickets for that. I was soooo impressed with him - He rarely does things like this - think he might be sick or something??!!!!

Anyway, I really enjoyed the film, had a few good laughs!!! All I can say is that I am glad our date night didnt turn out like theirs in the film!! (I´ll say no more for those of you who want to see it!) (Tak Kristian for en hyggelig, sjov aften!!!)

Friday 9 April 2010

Guess who I saw today....

...I saw the Queen!!! Yes, the real, live Queen of Denmark!!!! Her summer residence is not far from where I work. I had just picked Andrew up from the train station and was driving him out to my work. He cleans some of the class rooms on a Friday afternoon. Well as we are driving I can see this big black, lovely, exspensive looking car coming towards me, I recognise the number plate, its got the Royal creast on it. I started to get so excited and almost made Andrew jump out of his skin as I shouted, "Someone from the royal family is in the car coming towards us, look, look, LOOK!!!" I slowed down and as it passed there was our Queen sitting with a beautiful hat on her head....must have been going somewhere special!! I was over the moon!!! "That was the Queen!!" was all I could repeat. Andrew looked at me like I was crazy and slowly shook his head, shrugged his shoulders and said "So?" (Honestly young people today!!!) Anyway it really made my day!! hahaha

So I left Andrew off at work and then I took myself off food shopping.

Meanwhile Leah was on her way into Copenhagen on the train. Today they were recording the first 8 programmes for the Childrens TV show. All week the team have been busy getting the set ready. I cant wait to see the finished programmes.

Leah came home after a great afternoon. She really enjoys doing this, even though its hard on her hands and arms. She is sure building up some muscles!!! I am sure at some stage you will get to see a clip from the finished show!!

I´ve learnt to mind my own business!!

How I learned to mind my own business ~

I was walking past the mental hospital the other day, and all the patients were shouting, '13....13....13.' The fence was too high to see over, but I saw a little gap in the planks, so I looked through to see what was going on..... somebody poked me in the eye with a stick! Then they all started shouting '14....14....14'...

(haha Just thought I would bring a smile to your face!!! Thanks Jeff for sending this, I laughed my head off!!! haha)

And just to end....I discovered something new today! Did you know that the Irish discovered Africa?!! Check out the clip below.....

Celebration...

...it has been a wonderful morning of celebration! Wonderful music, wonderful songs with powerful words, a great sermon, sharing communion and fellowshiping with each other afterwards over a cup of tea/coffee. The focus through it all being that Jesus is risen and is alive today!

We eneded the service with a beautiful song which I had forgotten about. Its been ages since I have listened to it. The words are fantastic and so, once again (sorry I always seem to post music things!) I have posted it down below. I just wanted to share it cause the words spoke to me sooo much and it blessed me so much.

Sundays arrived!!!

and Jesus has risen!!! He´s alive, He´s conquered death!! I love Easter Sunday morning. I am just about to head off to church for the Easter celebrations but wanted just to post a song that I have been listening to while getting ready....My Redeemer Lives!!! (not the same one as Lisas,) its just a celebration song that reminds me MY REDEEMER DOES LIVE and because He lives I want, and can, get to know Him and the power of His resurrection....Have a wonderful Easter Sunday!! I have got to go, dont want to be late!!! Bye for now

Friday 2 April 2010

Because of me....

....and because of you Jesus came. Just wanted to take time today to think about the real meaning of Easter. Just been thinking about Gods love for me. How can I ever doubt His love when I know what Jesus did for me. "...his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond that of human likeness. " Isaiah 52,14

He let that happen to Him because of His love for me. Have a listen to the song below, you probably know it well, but its a favourite of mine. I just listened to the song put together with clippings from the film The Passion. The words and pictures spoke so deeply to me and I was reminded of that verse from Isaiah. But I was also reminded about all the wonderful things that are now mine because of Jesus...

I am now forgiven (Col 2,139
I am now a friend of God (John 15,5)
I am now Gods child (John 1,12)
I have now peace with God (Rom 5,1)
I can come BOLDLY to the throne of grace (Heb 4, 14-16)
and I am loved (always have been!!!...in that while I was a sinner Christ died for me!)

Just a few thoughts I had this morning while listening to this song. Have a listen... I found another video with the song on it, so its NOT the one from the passion. The one below doesnt have the violence in it.

Ikea show room NOW open

...yes, the Ikea show room, based in my living room, is now open!! haha The only thing not from Ikea is the pillows on the sofa!! haha So heres the finished project:-) It has been soooo much fun, shopping and organising it all.

I love having a desk. Although I havent had to much time to sit at it, I know I am going to spend many happy hours there. Only a few cupboards left to clear out and organise. Where do we get all the stuff???!!! I have cleared out and thrown out so many bags of stuff today and it was only in October that I last did that. We just love to gather stuff, but now theres a bit more space again, at least for another few weeks!!
