Silver envelope 18 and 19.....

So this evening we finally got around to another couple of silver envelopes!

The last few months have been busy.  Kristian has been gone a lot of weekends at go-kart races and his Monday evenings and Wednesday evenings have been spent helping in the go-kart shop, so we haven´t had much time left to fit in our silver envelopes. I am sooo behind with them. I have only 2 weeks left to give him 6 envelopes!!

But this evenings envelope was a big success.

I gave him the envelope last week so he could look forward to our date. He didn´t know what was happening until this evening when we sat in the car.

To understand this date I need to explain some things.....

Years ago in Denmark they had a TV series called Matador - it  was a great success. It could be likened to Downtown Abbey, although it was set in the late 1920s up to the 1940s. Kristian loved this series and it has always had a special place in his heart.

Not far from where we live is an amusement park - it is built in the forest. It´s a great place to go as you have the nature of the forest to wander in when you get tired of all the amusements and noise. This year they not only had all the usual amusements  but they had built a reconstruction of the homes, shops and restaurants that are featured in the TV series - Matador. So our date this evening was to go back in time and re-live that era. It was also special for Kristian as he got to see the places from the series.

When I told him we were going to visit Korsbæk, which is the name of the village in Matador, he was over the moon.

We decided to eat dinner at the restaurant above - Postgaarden.

The place was beautiful and it looked like the place in the series. The waitresses were all dressed like maids. I loved it!

The best part was that there were people acting out the characters from the series, so at different intervals in the evening the different characters would suddenly appear and go around and shake hands with us and spend some time speaking to us at our tables. They also spoke Danish like they did back in that era.

At one stage, during dinner, we were all asked to be quiet. A very well dressed, older lady took the stage and we were thanked for coming to the general assembly meeting of the housewives union. She thanked us for bringing our men with us to the meeting and then she gave this funny speech.

It was such a great atmosphere and we really felt like we were transported back in time. Kristian was loving it! The menu was also made up of typical food from that era. It was totally delicious. We stuffed ourselves.

For me the evening made me think of my old lady friend - Gerda. She grew up in this time, she came from a well to do family and she spoke Danish in a very polite manner, like they did back then. The food we ordered was the dish she had taught me to cook. Kristian and I took some time out to think of Gerda and to raise a toast for her.

After dinner we wandered about the town and Kristian pointed out what the different places were. Above is a picture of Laura´s kitchen....she was the famous cook in the series and that was the window down into her kitchen.

When we had seen all that there was to see, we wandered through the amusement park but didn´t stay long, it was not really our thing. We decided we would drive down to the sea, there was a strong
eastern wind blowing and we knew the water would be rough - this we wanted to see!

We went a walk along the seafront and enjoyed watching the waves crash against the rocks.

It was sooo great to be out with my hubby this evening and to have time to chat and catch up with each other. We talked and talked and talked!!

Finally we decided to head home. It was such a great evening out. But to end the evening there was one more envelope.....Envelope 19 - a DVD box of the Matador series!! It has been a good many years since Kristian last saw the series and I have not seen it all.

I did see one episode of it many years ago. After Kristian and I got engaged I went with him to visit his parents. This series was on TV at the time. Kristian´s mum and dad didn´t have a TV but the whole family went over to watch Matador at the farmhouse across the road. I went along with them and watched my first series of Matador. I didn´t understand a word of it. Kristian did his best to translate but it was hard to follow since I had no idea who was who.

Now all that can change this winter! Kristian and I have decided that we will go through the series and watch it this autumn/winter. I am sooo looking forward to that!
