Food glorious food.....

It was time, once again, to eat some glorious Mexican food. Last night (Tuesday) found me out with my friend Genny. We went to our favourite Mexican restaurant. Last time we were out together was in November. We never chat together in-between our Mexican date nights, so we had a lot of catching up to do. There was Christmas, New Year, husbands, children and work to talk about. The evening went in too fast, but we had a wonderful evening. Next time we meet will be in June, just before we all go off on holiday.

Over the years of going to the Mexican we have gotten to know the owner. We talk away to her each time we are there. Last time we were there we were the only customers. Last night there were a few more people, but still not enough. She was telling us things were hard and that she doesn´t know how long she can keep going. I felt so sorry for her. The food is good and the restaurant is cosy, it is also cheap to eat out there.  I wish I could do something to help her out.

(So for all you Danes who are reading this blog - go out and support The Mexican Restaurant in Hillerød. You can eat all you want at the Buffet for 108kr - a meal with a coke costs only 138kr. It´s the only Mexican in all of North Sealand.)

Today I am off work. It is wonderful:-) The sun is shining and I have just finished cleaning the bathroom. Now only the rest of the house to get sorted. Tomorrow our friend Jeff from the emerald isle is coming to visit. We can´t wait to see him!! Some more irish craic in the house!!

I´ve done something crazy!!!!

Today, after work, I went and ordered a brand new car!!! What was I thinking!???!!!!

It´s the cheapest car you can get here in Denmark - a Chervolet Spark. My old banger is slowly giving up the ghost. It needs to go through its M.O.T. in a few months and everything is breaking down. It can just about drive! You actually hear me before you see me in that car! My car is also just drinking the petrol. I only get 10-12km to a litre. On top of that the road tax is so exspensive. Taking all this into consideration I decided to go and check out some new  cars. What if I bought a new car that cost nearly nothing on road tax, and one that could drive double the mileage that I am getting now?! The money I save on petrol, and taxes could help pay off the car. So I did some maths and some more maths and some more maths and decided to go for it.

Kristian and I had gone by the car dealer yesterday after church. We took a test drive in the Spark and I fell in love!!

We talked to the sales man and got all the figures down on paper. I told him I would go home and think about it and think about it I did!! I have done nothing else but think about it for the past 24 hours. Finally after work I made my decision.

So next Tuesday I will pick up my new car. (I think I´ll call him Wally! or maybe he is really a she?!)  Anyway, I bought the car in a lovely misty blue colour and not green like in the picture above. I actually wanted it in a coconut brown colour or white, but I would have had to wait a month for that, so I went for the blue which they already had.

I can´t believe I have done it!! Now I just hope I have worked the maths out right and I can afford it!! Maths was never my strong subject!! hahaha

From a dream to reality....

A few weeks ago Leah and I had a dream to transform her room. That dream is now a reality! Well, apart from a few pictures we still have to paint for the wall above her desk. I think her room looks really good. I am so pleased with how it turned out. Leah is over the moon!!

The picture above is a view from the window, below is a view from the door.

The picture below is another view from the window, this time looking at the opposite side of the room.

Below is a view from the bed looking across the room. It´s small but cosy! (In the photo, Leah is busy putting her computer together and she actually got it together! It even worked - I was impressed!!)

Ahhhhh - a job well done, even if I say so myself:-)

Goodbye Kindle - hello Ikea....

I had gotten some money back from taxes. I had thought about buying myself a Kindle with it but on Thursday evening that idea was thrown out the window. Ikea got the money instead. Kristian, Leah and I went to Ikea to get some things for her room. She needed shelves and things for storage. (We live small, so we are always trying to find better ways to store stuff.)

So we filled our trolley with the things we needed. We only forgot one thing - HOW ON EARTH WOULD WE GET IT ALL INTO OUR SMALL CAR!! What were we thinking!! We should have loaned a trailer.......

Kristian was amazing. How he got everything fitted in I will never know! There was hardly room for Leah or me.
It gave us such a laugh! We just prayed we wouldn´t meet any police on the way home! (and we didn´t)
Here´s a challenge...You have heard of "find Wally" well how about trying to "find Laura" in the picture above!
On Friday when I came home from work the house looked like a bomb had exploded!!(and we were having guests for dinner!!) Ikea boxes and things from Leah´s room were everywhere.

Andrew had been a good big brother. While we had been at work and school, he had put together a lot of the things from Ikea. Leah was totally delighted. This meant Kristian could start drilling and hanging shelves etc when he got home.

Leah got in on the fun of building the last few items from Ikea.

The room is starting to come together.

Today Kristian is away go-karting. Sara is working at the go-kart track and Leah, Andrew and I are going to get this house organised and sorted out.

Now that Leah´s room has got a lick of paint, I am itching to do something with our wee room. I have a few crazy ideas....I wonder if Kristian will go along with them!!

(Oh by the way, Andrew didn´t get the job. It was at Kristian´s work and his boss found out that they had a policy that families can´t work together in the same department...too bad, working for those 3 months could have earned him enough money to get his driving license.)

We couldn´t wait.....

Leah has been wanting her room done for a while. I promised her that we would do it at Easter. Last week we went to Ikea and got loads of  ideas. We came home and put pen to paper! We made at least 10 different drawings of the room, we measured and remeasured things Finally we had a room that we liked! We made a list for another trip to Ikea, this time to buy stuff!

Last weekend we went to the paint shop, Leah picked a pretty purple colour (her favourite colour) and a tester was bought to try it out. It passed the test.  Everything was organised, all we had to do was wait for Easter so we could get started.....BUT we couldn´t wait!!

Yesterday on my way home from work I called by the paint shop and got a bucket of paint.(Leah knew nothing about this!) I decided I would surprise her, I would paint her room while she was at school. So this morning I was up at the crack of dawn, all eager to get started. As soon as Leah was out the door I was in her room getting things moved out for the big paint job.

I worked hard all morning. It was so much fun. Just after one o´clock a very surprised Leah walked through the door. She was soooo delighted. Now she wouldn´t have to wait so long for her room to be ready!! I had a VERY happy girl!!

We moved the bed to the opposite side of the room and it fitted perfectly. We tried out the new blanket and pillows, yes they looked good too. Now tomorrow we hope to go to Ikea and get the shelve and desk that she wants. Kristian can put the whole lot together on Friday and then on Saturday we can spend the day organising. Oh I just love decorating!!! I have had so much fun today!

It was such a beautiful day here. At noon, I took a break from the painting and sat out on the balcony with my sandwiches, just enjoying the sunshine, the warmth and a quick read.  Spring is finally on the way!!

Out for the night...

Last night I was out on the town with my colleagues from work. We went to try out the new cafe opened in one of the local towns. We were not disappointed! The food was absolutely delicious!! The 8 of us had a great time fooling around, eating and laughing.

We nearly licked the plates clean!

Some had dessert while others, like me, had a hot chocolate. Yummieeeee!! At 8pm we were finished eating. Henning, Kai and Ivan had other things to do, so they left the party. The rest of us thought it was too early to go home and wondered what we should do. (There is not much to do in these small local towns!) In the end we decided to head to the cinema to see what was showing. "The Adjustment Bureau" was showing at 9.15pm. We decided to go and see it. We all really enjoyed it. (Check out a trailer on youtube if you want to know what it´s about -  the film got us talking about God´s will, man´s free will etc. We were having deep talks all day about it!!)  It was late when I got home, almost midnight!!

It has been a hard (but good) day today! Hard because I have been  feeling sooo tired. I´m not feeling any fresher now and I have to get through juniour club this evening. Ah well, at 9pm tonight I can finally relax!

Sunday 20 March 2011

International night....

Once again it was "International Night at The Rasmussens!"  We had our 4 student friends visiting. They came late afternoon, stayed for dinner and on into the evening. We had a great evening. We talked, laughed, played Wii and ended the evening with a few games of  "Who wants to be a Millionaire." It was really good to see them again. I think the cold Danish winter has been hard on them, but they survived!! In June they will leave Denmark and go to other places to finish their education. We will be sorry to see them go:-(

It´s time for a new Bible verse. I should have chosen one last Sunday, so I am a bit late...but better late than never. So my new verse for this week is a short, but good one. I actually stole it from Terri, it was her verse but I thought it was something that I needed now, something I needed to be reminded off. So the verse is from Proverbs 18 v 21 and it´s from The Message Bible which says it sooo well.
"Words kill, words give life, they´re either poison or fruit  - you choose."

A cracked pot.....

I wonder, do you ever feel like a cracked pot? I know I do! Not really sure what I mean? Well listen to the story below, it`s a beautiful story which will explain everything.  I hope you will enjoy.....

So even though I am cracked and full of flaws, it´s good to know that God can still use me! He knew what he was getting, I am no surprise to Him!! and the best thing is - He still loves me and will always love me no matter what! Now that is AWESOME!!

It´s been a week since I posted. I can´t believe where the time has gone. It has been a normal week, nothing extraordinary happened, oh except a trip to Ikea, this time with Leah. (Although that is not really extraordinary for me!!.)  Leah would love a new room. Since it is almost 3 years ago that we made her room, we will redecorate at Easter. We both can´t wait:-)

Mostly this week we have been following the disaster in Japan and we have been feeling really helpless. So many people are suffering throughout the world. My heart aches for them. It made me think about all the stupid, mundane things that I complain about and how insignificant they are.

A note to myself....

....never leave home without the GPS!!

Thursday evening I went to visit my friend Jette. They moved a while back,  to a big cosy farm house. I set off without the GPS, sure I could find it, after all, I had been there 3 or 4 times before! Having said that, Kristian was always the one driving. I was always the one chatting away not paying much attention to where we were going!!haha

So Thursday evening I headed to the motorway. It was dark, raining and blowing a gale! As I drove along the motorway I started to see signs for towns that lay to the south of us - something was wrong -  I was meant to be going north!! My lightening quick brain realised  that I had taken the wrong motorway. I was on the one heading to Copenhagen instead of the one heading to Helsingor. Aaarrrrghhhhhhhhh how annoying was that!!

I rectified that little mistake and was happily on my way north. It was then time to exit the motorway when I realised again, that I had made another mistake!!

When I exited the motorway I was surprised to find a T junction. That was not what I was expecting!! The road was meant to go on straight! There was a very confused irish woman in the car!! I decided to turn left at the T juncion and see where the road went...it didn´t go where I was meant to be!!

Well to cut a long story short, I managed to make it back unto the motorway again. I took the right exit and finally made it to her home - only 20 minutes late!! hahaha

On the way home I stayed clear of the motorway and took the country roads home - which worked out much better - I was home in no time!!

So it´s now weekend again. We are all having a relaxing day. Leah has been at a sleepover in the church. It´s something called COW (Computer Og Wellness - the "og" is Danish for "and") The boys play computer all night and the girls have foot baths, face masks, massages, etc and they watch girlie films all night!! She loved it, but she only got about 3 hours sleep so she is exhausted.

We did talk about going to Ikea this afternoon. She would like a new room. I have promised her we could paint and decorate her room at Easter. We want to go in and get some ideas. But at the minute I can´t get any life in her, so it looks like a home day for me too.

Sara is heading into Copenhagen to visit Winnie. She is over staying at her brother´s place. So they will go out this evening and eat together and have some fun!

Andrew is at home with a few butterflies in his stomach....he is waiting to hear if he can start a new job. He has been at home since January, his other course is finished and his next education course/school first starts in August. He has been looking for jobs since January but they are hard to come by, however he might just have landed a temp job that would give him work until the end of June. He is waiting to hear from them....they have to check to make sure that there is no problem him being under 18. (He will first be 18 in August)  I´ll keep you posted.

Kristian is sitting at his computer and is excited about a new project he has started. Over the last few months he has made logos and webpages for different go-kart people and they have been very pleased with his work.  This has now encouraged him to try and start his own web design business. So all day today he has been working on the logo and a bit of his homepage. The name will be KR Web Design.(www.krwebdesign.dk) It´s all in the early stages and he has still loads to learn but wouldn´t it be great if it took off!!! ....and here is where I start dreaming - cause if Kristian has his own web design business he could work from home, and that would mean home could be anywhere in world!! hahahaha Now where should we go?

A visit from the homeland...

Friday afternoon Ivan and Anne arrived from Ireland. It was soooo great to see them again! We had a busy few days planned for them so Friday evening was spent chatting, catching up and relaxing.

Saturday we headed out to explore Denmark. We drove the coast road down into Copenhagen, making a few stops on the way. It was then into a big shopping centre to get some bargins - but we were disappointed, none were to be found. We went out for dinner (which was delicious - Italian buffet) and ended the evening going to the cinema to see "Just go with it" which we all enjoyed! A funny film, just our type of humour!

Sunday we went to church and then headed out for a picnic. The weather was fantastic - just REALLY cold! We headed up to Heather Hill and had a good walk over the hills. We drove by our church summer house and ended the day by visitng the Queens summer house - her castle in Fredensborg.  It was home to dinner and then an evening of watching "Everybody loves Raymond" which Ivan and Anne really got addicted to while here!!

Monday I had work, but Kristian was off, so he went exploring with them. They had a good day visiting the castle, the castle gardens and off course shopping!

Tuesday Kristian and I both had off,  so we headed into Copenhagen to be real tourist.

We started the day by going to see The Little Mermaid.

Then it was off to the palace to see the changing of the guards. The Danish palace is very open, no big gates to go through. While we were standing watching the guards we spotted one of our Princes. He got out of a car and walked up to the palace. We all stood and watched him open the door and go in!!

Then it was off to New Harbour. Once again the weather was fantastic, just cold! We walked beside the canal, got to see one of the houses that Hans Christian Anderson lived in and then had a coffee/tea and hot chocolate...guess which one I had?

The rest of the day was spent walking around the shops in Copenhagen and we even managed to fit in a delicious 3 course meal at a very cheap price!!! The day went by too fast and before we knew it we were back home, sitting on the sofa having a good laugh while watching - yes you guessed it - "Everybody loves Raymond."

Today I drove them to the airport. I was soooo tempted to be spontaneous and irresponsible and just get on the plane along with them and go home to wee norn iron!! But as you probably guessed - I didn´t!

It was sooo lovely having them over, Kristian and I both really enjoyed their company and I think they had a good time too. The weekend flew by! Now roll on the end of March when our next guest arrives from the emerald isle!! Whoopieeeeee:-)

Audry date....

....last night it was time to catch up with my friend Audry. It´s been almost 3 months since we last got together so there was lots to catch up on. We as usual went to Ikea and walked around from 7pm - 9pm. We both picked up a few bargins before heading over to McDonalds for our usual McFeast Menus! It was after 11pm when I got home. It sure was nice to catch up.

Some other news, Leah has started a blog which you can find at:  www.leahrasmussen1.blogspot.com or by pressing "Leah Rasmussen" at the left hand side of my blog. My friend Anne has also started one, you can find hers at www.maltesen.blogspot.com or by pressing "Anne´s blog" at the left hand side of mine. Only problem with Annes is that you need to learn Danish to read it - but that is only a minor problem:-) Where there´s a will, there´s a way, I think it´s called Google translate:-)

Have a great day whatever you are up to!
(p.s. I have added new songs for the month of march - if you want to hear them just hit the button at the top left handside under the title, "my favourite songs for March.")
