Something to think about.....

I found the above video on facebook last night. Thought it was really good. A reminder of the important things in life, things to remember to do, or to be in the New Year.

A picnic in -15 temperatures.....

...now that´s what I call crazy!!!

But that´s what my husband does every December with a group of other crazy men. They meet in the forest and talk about the year that has gone and their plans for the year ahead. (I think they cover alot of other subjects through out the evening, but wives are not let in on that information!!) The main thing is that they have a great time! They do it no matter what the weather´s like and last night it was -15 here!

Around 8pm Kristian was all set to go. He had his layers of clothing, a blanket, a bag full of goodies and loads of coffee to drink. Oh yeah, and a big smile on his face:-)

As usual they had a great evening. Kristian arrived home sometime around 3.30am!! I have said it before and I´ll say it again - CRAZY MEN!!!!

A penny for their thoughts....I think the fire has hypnotised them!

So relaxing....

This Christmas holiday has been soooo relaxng. Just what we needed!! We have done nothing but watch films, eat, go on facebook and eat some more!! It has been sooo wonderful to take time out from reality and just lock ourselves away in our wee apartment.

Yesterday I decided to paint. I needed a painting for my kitchen/dining room wall, so I decided to do something about that. I spent the afternoon painting and below you can see the result. I now want to paint two smaller ones for the other wall that so desperately needs something on it.

(The guy whose painting I copied is called Tim Gagnon. Check out his web, he is a fanatastic painter. I found him through youtube. He had a video where he painted the above picture in speed time...like in 3 minutes. I watched the video and got an idea of how he created the effect and then tried to guess the colours etc. I have now checked out his website where you can buy lessons. I am very tempted to buy some of his lessons. I just love his work. Check it out for yourselves.... http://www.timgagnonstudio.com )

Christmas 2010

Merry Christmas from all of us!
Finally Christmas day has arrived. I hope that you are enjoying your day no matter where in the world you are. We have had a wonderful day - so far! We have just eaten the biggest and most delicious Christmas dinner ever - (even without the brussel sprouts and stuffing, it was delicious!) We soooo enjoyed it. Now we are all lazying around relaxing, each one of us in his/her own way. It´s wonderful!

For the Danes the big day to exchange gifts was yesterday - the 24th so late yesterday afternoon we headed down to Kristian´s sister to celebrate with his family. His other sister was there, and his brother with his family. We were 21 all together and we had a fantastic evening.

It was then home and to bed for "the real" Christmas day! I could hardly wait!! I had bought Kristian a really good present this year, something he needed but would never dream that I would buy him for Christmas. I had such a hard time not telling him about it, but I kept the surprise right to the end. So what did I buy him? A Nikon D5000 camera with an extra zoom lense. I got a bargin and I can´t resist a bargin so I just had to buy it! haha (Now my dentist money is gone so I have to start saving again, just hope the bill doesn´t come in January! haha)

Want to see Kristian´s reaction to his present? Then check out the video below...you´ll get a taste of Christmas morning at The Rasmussens!! Merry Christmas everyone!

Still no brussel sprouts....

...and the supermarket guy promised me they would have them today. A new delivery was expected:-( Then again, it was late afternoon when I went to town, so maybe they got a delivery and sold out very quickly!! Do people really LOVE brussel sprouts that much??!! Another more probable reason was the weather! We had a big snow storm last night so the roads have been awful to drive on. There have been delays and chaos everywhere. The delivery probably never arrived. Anyway I will, for the first time in years, have a Christmas dinner without brussels sprouts. I also don´t have any stuffing or Bisto gravy! What is the world coming too?!!!! Ah well, I´m sure I will survive! I´m actually sooooo looking forward to my Christmas dinner:-)

This evening Leah and I did some baking. The Chrsitmas music went on and we went mad in the kitchen. We made rice crispie buns, wee buns (or muffins as they are called over here) and lemon squares, half of which we ate this evening!

When Sara arrived home from work we all gathered in the living room and stuffed our faces, while watching Home Alone. It´s been years since we´ve seen that film. We really enjoyed it.

Now the big day awaits. Tomorrow we celebrate Christmas! Just hope the snow lets up so we can get to Hannes (Kristian´s sister) and then get back home again without any problems.

Busy,busy, busy....

...but so is everyone!! There is deadline to meet!! Ours is the 24th December!!

Yesterday was my first day off school and what a day I had planned! I didn´t manage to do everything I had planned but I got the cupboards cleared out in the living room and kitchen (yes again!! where do we get all the stuff?!!) I got our hall sorted out too! The coats and shoes that were piled out there was ridiculous! That´s all sorted now! And those 3 rooms are totally clean.

I got the food shopping done too. There was a big snow storm coming in over Denmark so I decided to do my food shopping late yesterday afternoon, just in case I couldn´t get out today.

I wanted to get in and out of town as quickly as possible.... but it wasn´t that easy. First the shop didn´t have any brussel sprouts left!! How can you run out of brussel sprouts?? I know I LOVE them but I thought I was the only one!! Apartently not!!

Then I couldn´t find a turkey breast!! None left - PANIC!! so I bought some roastbeef instead. I got a ham too, we always have ham at Christmas. However the missing turkey would not leave me alone. Is it really a Christmas dinner without turkey??? This question niggled away at my brain as I shopped. I had to find a turkey breast!!! So I did something that I didn´t want to do, I drove to different supermarkets just to check out their freezers. I finally found one!! A wee 900 gram turkey breast, not much, but at least we will all get a mouthful of the bird to make our Christmas dinner perfect!!

While I was gone Sara and Leah decided to clear up and clean out their rooms.

Sara ironed her clothes and sorted out everything in her room. She started by throwing everything outside her bedroom door, cleaned the room and then she sorted through the pile. Must say she did a good job but I wonder how long it will last, knowing Sara NOT LONG!! Usually a few hours later it´s impossible to see the floor again!

Leah did exactly the same with her room. Everything got taken down so she could clean.

She just piled everything on our bed while she cleaned and organised.

Her wardrobe was in need of help. It looked like a bomb had exploded in there. So out came all the clothes, they got folded and oragnised and now she has a beautiful, organised wardrobe...but for how long?

I was beginning to panic about not having a Christmas tree. We were meant to get it on Saturday but Kristian wasn´t feeling the best so we dropped that idea. I had gone to a few places on Monday evening to see what they had, but they only had small trees, ones that came just above your knee. The good trees were gone!! The kids were also getting rather worried that we wouldn´t have a tree this year.

But Kristian saved the day! Yesterday on the way home from work he called into a place and got the last big tree they had. We are soooo happy to have a tree even if it is an ugly old thing!!

We decorated it last night. It´s amazing what a few lights and a bit of decoration can do for a tree. It now doesn´t look sooooo bad.

Now I have another busy day ahead!! Today is our last shopping day, tomorrow the celebrations begin!! oh I can hardly wait!!!

Christmas holidays!!

...at last, the Christmas holidays are here! Today we stopped school. For the next 12 days I don´t have to get up at 5.45am in the morning!! I can do whatever I want, whenever I want (well, within reason!!) and sleep as long as I want (that´s the joy of having big kids!)

The next few days are all planned out. Tomorrow is clearing out and cleaning up day! Along with the cleaning I have one major goal - to buy a Christmas tree. We were meant to buy it on Saturday but Kristian wasn´t feeling well (let´s blame it all on him!!).I have never been without a Christmas tree this close to Christmas! I can feel the PANIC starting to set in!!

Thursday Leah and I have planned a baking day! NO - IT`S NOT A JOKE!!! We are going to bake lots of different goodies for us to eat over the Christmas period! The Christmas music will be blasting from the CD and we will filling the house with wonderful smells! (Well, at least that´s the plan, lets see how it goes, my plans never seem to work out!)

Yesterday afternoon, Leah and I went to visit my friend Laura and her daughter Mia. It has been months since we last got together. It was sooooo great to see them and catch up with what has been happening in their lives. One big bit of news was the kittens! A few weeks ago they got 2 new kittens. They are just soooo adorable! Leah and I fell for them and they seemed to like us too!

The one jumped up to Leah and fell asleep in her arms and later on in her lap. The other jumped up and fell asleep in my arms. It was sooooo wonderful! It didn´t take much for us to fall in love with them!

An early Christmas....

Every December we try to hold a mini, early Christmas with our friends Jette and Filip. So yesterday afternoon we headed out to visit them.

We exchanged gifts. The gifts we give each other are silly ones, usually from the pound shop, or else from our own cupboards, something we have had that we want rid off.

It was fun exchanging the gifts. Sara got a couple of lamps (Jette`s old lamps) for her room. They are lovely and Sara was all pleased with them.

Andrew got a pair of roller skates! (Filip´s old ones that he hasn´t used in years!) Andrew was all chuffed.

I got a new scarf and Kristian got a Wok, which he quickly gave to me!! (Jette was clearing out her kitchen cupboards. I was over the moon - needed another Wok!) Leah got a DVD....so all in all we did really well.

Jette´s children each got one of Leah´s "old" cuddly bears, a book to share and a couple of cars. They loved them! Jette got a DVD from the pound shop and Filip got a few of Kristians old Top Gear DVDs.

After exchanging gifts there was time for playing

There was also time for chatting and catching up!

And also time for a cuddle!

Unfortunately Kristian got a fever during the evening. His body started to ache and he just looked like he needed to sleep. Jette had also been sick all week, so she also, at times, looked like she needed a bed!

We had planned to make Christmas sweets, see a Christmas film, go out on the sleigh and play a game of cards. We didn´t do any of it. After a delicious dinner we all just lay around the living room talking. We were all tired and had no energy! Around 10.3opm we headed home so Kristian could get to bed. (Poor wee man was just not himself!)

Even though we didn´t do all that we planned, we still had a great evening. Jette and Filip are just great to hang out with!! So down to earth and easy going!

Kristian has now been in bed all day. He thinks he feels a bit better, so hopefully these 24 hours in the warmth with loads of sleep has helped!

Time for an update.....

...Two years ago when I started this blog it was to be my diary. I love to keep a diary about the things I get up to, the thoughts I have etc, but I hate to write. However I do LOVE to type, so having a blog seemed like the perfect solution. These past few weeks I have been getting a little bit lazy with the blog. It´s not because I`m too busy to type, I´m not! It´s like I said - just laziness!

I thought I better update tonight before I forget what I have been up too over the last few days.

Last Friday was our Christmas dinner at work. We had a great night with loads of food. I had been asked to help set the table for dinner, so after work I stayed and got things ready, along with 2 others. We turned the place into a Christmas wonderland with candles, decorations, lights and table settings. It looked really well - (even if I say so myself!!haha)

When we sat down to eat, I misunderstood the menu (and so did a few others) We thought it was a main meal, followed by dessert, so I went up and filled my plate. There was chicken and bacon salad, salmon, prawn mousse, tomatoe salad, a green salad and bread. It tasted soooo good.

I did think it was a bit strange that there were no potatoes or meat, but then again it was actually nice to get something different. I ate my first plate and went up and took another plate. I filled it even more than the first one. When I was one mouthful away from finishing that plate, one of my colleagues stood up and said "Now the main course will be served!" WHAT??!!!!!! I was nearly full!!! hahaha Boy did I struggle through the main course and dessert!!! I think I put 2 kgs on that night!! But it was a great night, filled with a lot of laughter!

On Monday evening I was out eating again. This time I met my "old" friend Genny and we went to our favourite Mexican restaurant. It´s been about 9 months since we last got together! We spent the evening eating from the buffet and having a good long chat! We were the only two in the resturant. I wish I had more money! I would support the local restaurants by going out and eating in them every night of the week!! haha I was so glad I got to see Genny. We had a great evening together!

Over here, Monday night was soooo cold! Genny and I shivered our way home and then realised why we were the only people in the restaurant! We were the only two brave enough to venture out in the cold weather! (others might say we were the only two crazy enough!!)

Tuesday evening we held a Christmas party for our junior club. We had 17 kids between the age of 9-12 years. We started by meeting at 5pm at the church. We ate "Risengrød" (something the Danes love to eat at this time of the year!) It´s just rice pudding with a knob of butter, sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. Anne made it, and it was delicious! We played a few games before heading out to the bowling centre to end the evening bowling. When the 3 hours were finished, so were we!!!! We had a great night though, and not just us two, the kids enjoyed it too!!

Today (Wednesday) I have been to another concert with Leah´s choir. This time it was just for the parents. We were able to sit and enjoy some coffee, tea or soda, while the girls sang for us. A good way to end the choir season. No more choir till January:-(

Food, fun and fellowship...

On Tuesday my friend Rhona had a birthday! Since I was off on Wednesday we decided to go out and celebrate her birthday. We went for brunch. It was soooo good!! We had delicious food, good fun and loads of things to talk about.

According to Rhona, the coffee was good too, I don´t like the stuff!!! I think we have now found a new place to hang out!

We had a lovely view from where we sat. (Well, when the vans finally moved we had a lovely view!!) It really was a great day out, the time went by too fast! I am now soooo looking forward to going on the pension! I then can hang out like this more often.

Despite the snow.....

....life is good!

I have had a busy but good weekend. Saturday I was out shopping with my friend Audry. A few years ago we started a tradition to go Christmas shopping together. We usually take a day off work, but this time we decided to shop on a Saturday.

We drove to a big shopping centre on the outskirts of Copenhagen. We had a blast! Shops, shops and more shops!! What´s not to like?!! We arrived at 11am (the shops over here open at 10am) and we shopped till 5pm when the shops closed.

While eating lunch we realised that we didn´t have much time left for shopping! Usually the shops close on a Saturday at 4pm, and we had totally forgotten about that! We were totally disappointed until a message came over the loud speaker that the shops were open an extra hour!! What joy! You would have thought someone gave us £100! hahaha

All the Christmas shopping is now nearly done. Only one present left to buy and that´s me all organised! The rest of December can be spent just being cosy.

Sunday afternoon was spent decorating the house. We usually decorate on the 1st December, so the kids were complaining about having no decorations around the place. We got that sorted out on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday evening we went to a concert with Leah´s choir, who were together with the adult Gospel choir. Signe (Kristian´s sister) was the guest singer and Kristian was playing his sax. It was a brilliant concert! Gospel really puts you in a good mood. I was high when I came home, couldn´t get to sleep! The result of that was that I slept in Monday morning. I woke at 6.47am !! I am usually on my way to work by this time! Aaargggghhhhh! Hate when that happens.

A taste of the concert.....

Not again!

.....another week has passed without a word from me! (I am getting really bad at this "diary" update!)

So what has been going on in the Rasmussen household? Let me think....hhhmmm.....I suppose I should begin way back last Sunday. It was there that we had our Christmas Bazar, in church, to raise money to give to a charity that help women who are in an abusive relationship. I had the responsiblity of organising a "fishing" booth. The children could buy a ticket to come and fish up a present. (All the gifts were sponsored by friends and colleagues!) I spent my Saturday packing 50 gifts in, while Kristian made the fishing rods.

The game was a great success! The kids loved it! We raised £50 at our booth!

Monday evening just after I went to bed I was awakened by Leah. She was sick and boy was she sick! She threw up all night! Literally every hour! There was not much sleep got by either of us. In the middle of one of her throwing up fits, Andrew arrived out in the bathroom. He had cramps and diarre! There was suddenly competition for the toilet! haha To top it all off, Sara woke up with fever and a sore throat. I was in no fit state for work so I took the day off. I ended up at the doctors with Sara again. A new course of penicillin was prescribed is now being taken. There is a big improvement!

Last night (Friday) I met up with my "old" friend Rhona and we headed out to a carol service. It was lovely. We sang our hearts out in Danish and English. There are some beautiful Danish carols but I sooo enjoyed when we sang the English carols. It was just a really lovely evening and it was great to catch up with Rhona. When I came home Winnie was here for the evening. It was also lovely to see her too.

Today (Saturday) I have been out with my other "old" friend Audry. Three years ago we started a tradition to go Christmas shopping together, so today was set aside for that. We drove to the outskirts of Copenhagen to a big shopping centre. (Glad to say we got there and home again in one piece! It was me driving and I am not too keen on driving anywhere slightly near Copenhagen! So I am slightly relieved to have a car and a body still in one piece!) The day went too fast! We were there from 11am and leaving at 5pm when the shops closed, yet it just felt like we had been there a couple of hours. Next year we are going to shop on a week day as the shops stay open a little longer!! haha

Below is a clip from the Christmas Bazar. A group of young fellas from the church got together and sang. This was recorded at the rehersal. I think they sound soooo good. So give it up for the newest boy band in Denmark!! haha

Saturday, 27 November 2010

The weather outside is....

.....awful, although some others might say it´s wonderful!!

It has been snowing in Denmark all day! 40cm of snow has fallen and they are promising more. In my world that spells trouble! Trouble getting the car out, trouble driving the car, and even trouble parking the car! A simple task can become
complicated when there is alot of snow lying on the ground!

I was thankful that I had done all my shopping yesterday on the way home from work. I didn´t need to venture out in it today. Unfortunately Sara had to work in the local supermarket and then walk home after work. By the time she got home she was exhausted. She took off her boots, came in and sat down and ended up falling asleep on the chair.

I spent a good part of the morning wrapping up presents. Tomorrow we are holding a Christmas Bazar at church. I am in charge of a "Fishing" booth. The kids get to pay £1 to fish for a present. There was 50 presents to parcel today. Kristian made the fishing rods and I think we are going to have a bit of fun with this. The money raised is going to a local charity that helps women who are in an abusive relationship.

Yesterday my wee blondie daughter disappeared. Now I have two dark haired girls!! Leah has been wanting brown hair for years, so yesterday she was finally allowed to do it. Well acutally it was her friend´s mum that did it. She is a hairdresser, so she got a bit of a trim at the same time. She loves the new look. I like it too, although I do miss seeing the blonde hair about the place!

It´s starting to feel a lot like Christmas.....

Waking up to a world covered in snow, sure makes it feel a lot like Christmas!!

I didn´t have my car today as it was at the mechanic getting its winter tyres. It was like the "good old days" again, me back taking the train. I am so thankful for my car, especially in this kind of weather!

Today we had a special celebration for one of my colleagues. He has been "clean" (off drink and drugs) for 5 years, so we made a big fuss of him. We bought him a present along with loads of bread and HUGE Danish pastries! We sure know how to celebrate!! I was stuffed! The Danish pastry was soooo delicious and filling. We ate it at break time and by lunch time I still wasn´t hungry!!

Today was "cut and paste" day at school. All the classes made Christmas decorations and hung them all over their classrooms. I didn´t have any English to teach, it was rather nice just being cosy with the kids. The time went way too fast!

After work I was off to see my friend Rhona. It was time for our traditional hot chocolate, this time the weather was perfect for it! It was wonderful to see Rhona again. I love meeting up with her and catching up. I am sooo blessed to have great friends in my life!

It´s not like me.....

....to be quiet for sooooo long!!

After a busy few weeks, or should I say months, life has finally settled down again to a more normal pace.

At school I am still cleaning and teaching. I am still enjoying both. (Well most of the time!) A few weeks ago we got the yearly photo taken at school. My boss, colleague and I decided to do something really special with our photo, so we got ourselves a makeover. The result you can see for yourself.

Yesterday (Tuesday) I was out with my friend Anne. We went for dinner and a loooooong chat. Then it was off to the cinema for a movie. We went to see Sleep, Pray and Love (with Julia Roberts). What a BORING film!!!! We thought it would never end! It started at 9.30pm and we were leaving the cinema at midnight!! (Next time Anne, you pick the film!! I will even watch one of your alien films because of all that you went through for me! haha)

We came out the Cinema into a world covered in snow! It was so beautiful but very cold! I got in a bit of a panic because I had to drive through all the snow. (I still don´t have winter tyres on!!) But I got home safe, sound and in one piece.

Today was my last Wednesday spent at the church. I have worked there every Wednesday for the past year. It has been a great year with lots of challenges and exciting projects to be involved with. I now feel it´s time to move on. I will continue holding the junior club and doing Sunday school work in my spare time.

Now it´s that time again - bed time!! Where does the day go! Nice to be on here again! I´ll not leave it soooo long to the next post. Goodnight all:-)

Home sweet home....

....is where I have been all day long!

After another hectic week I decided to have a free weekend of nothing! I had nothing planned, I had nothing in my calendar, I had nothing in my brain. Nothing was everywhere around me today!! It really was what I needed:-)

Last week was a bit crazy. I had a few meetings at church, a few meetings at school, a visit to Ikea, a visit to the dentist and a whole lot of English homework to help Sara catch up with after her being sick. I got through it all, but I must admit by Friday I was exhausted!! For 3 weeks I had been getting up at 6am on weekdays and 7am at the weekend. I was in need of a lie in. My body just needed to wake up by its self without the aid of an alarm. Well it got to do that today. I slept from about midnight last night until 10am this morning. What luxury! How I appreciated it.

I have been in my PJs all day long. I haven´t even had a shower or brushed my teeth!! (I know, disgusting!! but I have had a blast!) Now I feel ready to face the world again. I have re-newed strength. Bring on a new week - I´m ready for it:-)

God in his wisdom knew that we all need a rest! I sure appreciated the rest I had today! Remember to take a break from your labours and rest! In the weeks to come I am going to take a bit of my own advice and make sure I take a rest from my labours! Now I´m off to bed to read a book, but before I do I think I better brush my teeth!!!

9 less at church this morning.....

....and I was one of the nine!

Late this afternoon we all arrived back again from our weekend away at The Childrens Workers Conference. We had a fantastic weekend away. The teaching was brilliant and the different workshops were great too! Saturday was jammed packed with loads of different workshops to choose from.

We got to meet loads of other workers from churches all around Denmark. We also got to have fellowship together, just the 9 of us! We had times of serious talks, times of planning and dreaming, but also times with loads of laughter!! It really did us all good getting away! Our vision was re-newed and we bonded closer together as a team!

(Next conference is in USA - wonder if the church would pay for us to go to that!!?? hahahaha)

Now I am soooo tired! I have been up at 7am all weekend!! Ahead of me is a busy few days, but by Wednesday life should settle down again. Hope you all have enjoyed your weekend, just as much as I have:-)

(P.S. A little update about Sara: She is doing soooo much better. She is now on a course of different medication until 13th November. She was at the hospital today for a check up and they will send her a letter in the near future with a date for her operation to remove her tonsils!! Thank goodness someting is finally being done! Thanks for all your thoughts, prayers and well wishes!!)

What a week!!

Yes, it has been quite a week in the Rasmussen household! From locking my keys in the car, to washing my mobile telephone and nearly trampling the cat to death!(whole other story for another time!) I didn´t think things could get much worse....how wrong I was!

On Tuesday evening Sara came home feeling totally rotten. It was her throat - again!! She gets a sore throat every 6 weeks or so. Usually a day or two in bed and she is then back on her feet again. (We sometimes go to the doctor when it happens, however we are always told the same thing. "it´s a virus, we can´t do anything, just drink warm tea.")This time was different. I have never seen her soooo sick.

She had fever. The glands on the side of her neck were so swollen you could see them sticking out. Her left ear was totally closed. At 5am she woke me, she could hardly swallow. Her tonsils were soooo swollen. I rang the emergency doctor but was told to contact my own doctor in the morning, so that´s what I did. We got an appointment. By this time Sara could only open her mouth half way. They checked her throat but there was no bacteria there, however something in her blood count was high, which showed infection. So we were sent to the hospital for more blood tests. They wanted to rule out Mononukleose. We were sent home with the instructions that if things got worse we should contact the hospital. (Oh by the way the blood tests showed that it wasn´t Mononukleose.)

Well things did get worse. I was at the dentist and when I came home Sara couldn´t open her mouth or swallow her spit. She was sitting with a bowl letting her spit run into it (gross - I know!!) Kristian has been on a course all week, so he came home to all this chaos! I rang the hospital and was told to come in with her right away. She was then kept in.

It turns out she had a boil at the back of her throat behind her swollen tonsils. They were worried that it would block her windpipe and make breathing difficult. This morning they were finally able to burst it, which was rather digusting!!! She has also been getting penicillin and this evening is on the mend! She is feeling alot better. Her tonsils are still swollen but she was finally able to eat a little food this evening. First time since Tuesday afternoon. Hopefully she will get home tomorrow.

In the middle of all this I had an appointment at the dentist and a bit of good news. The tooth that was cracked and needed a crown was not "dead " after all. When she got down to the roots she could see that it was looking good. So there was no root treatment and a crown was not needed, at least not at the moment. She was able to do a plastic filing, so I saved about £800!! A wee miracle in the middle of everything. I go again next week for the next bit of work that needs done on the right side.

Tomorrow I head off for the weekend. Right after work I head to the other side of Denmark for a Children Workers Conference. It happens every two years here in Denmark and it´s years ago since I have been to one. I am really looking forward to it. Eight of us from church are going so it should be fun. Hopefully we will get loads of ideas and inspiration! But I must admit I am feeling tired. This is the third weekend in a row that I have had a full programme! And my week days haven´t been much better. My house hasn´t be cleaned for 3 weeks!! hahaha So I know what Kristian will be doing this weekend while I am gone! It´s wonderful that I get to go away and he gets to do the housework and shopping:-) Life is good!

Good news....

...I put my phone on the radiator Sunday evening, and left it there until Monday evening. Last night on my way to bed I thought I would try it. It worked!!!

I now have a unique phone screen. You feel like you are swimming under the sea, looking at coral reefs when you look at my screen. But I don´t care, as long as it works, and it does! I can ring, text, go on facebook and use my alarm. Aaaahhhh life is good again! hahaha

What is happening to me!??????

......is it lack of sleep? Is it too much to do and not enough time to do it all in? Or is it just stupidity? I´ll let you be the judge!

I have been away on a fantastic weekend with the kids from church. It was our musical weekend. We had soooo much fun practising songs, rehearsing lines and making backgrounds. There was just such a wonderful atmosphere from start to finish. Today was the big day. They would preform in church and they were so nervous and excited as they waited for the curtain to open. They did such a good job. It was really a successful weekend.

So when church was finished I thought I could be home by 1.30pm at the latest. However things don´t always go as planned! I went out to the car to get something from the boot. I opened the boot, set my keys down, found what I needed and closed the boot. The moment I closed the boot I realised my keys were inside and the rest of the car was locked. Aarrrrrghhhhhhh! I tried to break in! No success. I got others to try and break in! Still no success, so there was nothing else for it but to get the train home. I was able to get Leah a ride home, she was sooo tired.

I started to head for home only to discover that I had just missed a bus and it would be another hour before one came. I decided to walk it to the station instead. Half an hour later I was at the station. A quick train ride and then another 20 minutes walk and I finally reached home at 3pm!

( Are some of you asking "Where was Kristian, why didn´t you go home with him? Why didn´t you ring him? Well Kristian was away on the other side of Denmark and would first be home this evening. More about that might come in a later post!)

Then this evening I decided to do some washing. I needed some jeans washed for work tomorrow. I took off the jeans I was wearing and threw them into the wash, Kristian had come home and he was going to take me up to church to get my car. I was rushing about trying to get the wash on before going out with him to the church. I managed to gather a bunch of clothes. I then popped my jeans in among them and I started the machine. I was all proud of my self for being so effective! (Pride always comes before a fall!!) Off I went to collect my car.

Then about ½ hour ago I put my jeans in the dryer only to discover that my mobile phone was still in the back pocket of my jeans!!! ( The phone I am still paying for!!!) Aarrrrrghhhhhhh!!! (I seem to be saying that a lot today!! haha) Yes I washed my phone!!! Aaarrrgghhhhhhhh again!!!

What else can go wrong today??? I´m not sticking around to find out. Off to bed I go before I can do anymore damage! Good night all:-)

A busy weekend awaits.....

yes, it´s a busy weekend for me. I am off with a group of kids from the church. We are having a musical weekend. We are doing the story of Joseph. I am really looking forward to it. It is going to be fun:-)

The kids arrive late Friday afternoon and then the fun begins! We have songs to practise, dances to rehearse, and drama parts to figure out in between all the other things. We are going to be busy. We have from Friday evening until Sunday morning, then on Sunday morning we perform for the whole church. YIKES!!! WILL WE BE READY!???

On Wednesday we started to get some bits and pieces together for the weekend. We needed to make a well for Joseph to be put down. We were wondering how on earth we could do that, when we spotted one of the toys from our mother and toddlers group. A fisherprice climbing frame with slide. We got an idea. The slide came off, the climbing frame got packed in and with a lick of paint it ended up looking like........

......a well. Well I hope you think it looks like a well!! It´s the perfect size for Joseph to be thrown into. I think this weekend is going to be fun!!

Mixed emotions....

So last weekend was filled with all sorts of mixed emotions.

I suppose it started on Friday. I was booked to go to the dentist at noon for a thorough check up of my awful teeth. What on earth was I doing going to the dentist when I had no pain?!! This was ME going of my own free will!! Was I crazy?! These and many more thoughts went through my mind as I got myself ready for the dreaded moment.

Well, glad to say, I survived the visit. She gave me a thorough going over and cleaned my stinky teeth. She told me everything that needed done (now that part I didn´t like!) and said she would send me a letter informing me about how much everything would cost.

The visit to the dentist had not been bad at all! I left there a happy woman, not to mention a little proud (but in a good way!) haha. I had faced my fears and was still around to tell the tale. (oh, ok I know I am a little dramatic!!)

Friday evening Kristian and I had been invited out to our friends, Merete and Palle
for dinner. We had the most delicious food - Shrimp soup, followed by fish and new potatoes done in their skin with a parsley sauce. We ate far too much as usual! It was a lovely relaxing evening, one we really enjoyed.

Saturday morning saw us up at 7.30am and we are NEVER up at 7.30am on a Saturday morning! But we were on a Mission! Kristian´s brother Anders has sold his farm (sob, sob, sob) and they were having a jumble sale to get rid of the last things that were lying around. We were going down to help.

There was all sorts of things to buy. From horse equipment to washing machines.....

Toys, to old chairs and TV sets.

People came and went....some bought things, others didn´t. We were a bit disappointed that there wasn´t a huge amount of people all at the one time, we wanted to be busy all day long. But we weren´t. In the end Lis and I went inside and started to pack things in boxes ready for the move. Kristian and Anders watched "the shop."

I was sad leaving them on Saturday evening. This was our last time there. That farm has soooo many precious memories for us. Many special times have been had there with all of Kristian´s family. Many special times have been had there by us as a family. (We have had quite a few family holidays on the farm. We looked after their animals while they went on holiday. We loved it.)

Ah well, a new house awaits with new memories to be made.

That evening, when we arrived home, there was a letter waiting from my dentist. Now at first, Kristian and I thought it was a bill for the work she had already done on my teeth. The price in the letter being 13947,63kr!! (about £1550!!) BUT.... Kristian and I read it as 1394,763 (about £155!) "Well, that isn´t too bad" said Kristian "No, it´s not, I thought for sure it would have been more" I answered him. (Kristian went off to the loo!)

I then looked more closely at the letter and realised it was a quote telling me how much everything that I needed done would cost. My lightening quick brain, realised that something was not right! The numbers on the top of the page did not add up to just 1394,763. It was then I realised what the real price was!! SHOCK AND HORROR followed!

That was not the end. Behind that quote was another quote. The above quote was only for work that needed done immediately!! The other quote was for work needing done within the next 2-3 years. It was for.....wait for it.....17100,kr (about £1900) SHOCK AGAIN!!!

I am seriously considering going toothless!! I could get a wonderful new piano for that money! (Dad leave me your teeth in your will, - will you?!! haha)

So that was my weekend of mixed emotions!!

(Kristian now wishes he had checked out my mouth first, before he agreed to marry me!! haha)

Home from home....

Where exactly is home?

I am home again from home, if you get my drift! We arrived back in Denmark last night at 9.30pm and Kristian was there to pick us up. It was great to see him and Andrew again. Now I just have to settle back to life here again. Good job I have a few days holidays left for that.

Today I decided I would clear up and clear out things here at home. I sorted out my bookc case, sorted out my desk cupboards and drawers, all my teaching stuff plus all our videos and dvds. I also got some cupboards in the kitchen organised too. It sure felt good. Still more sorting out to do tomorrow.

Then this evening I settled down to watch a DVD. It was a film I picked up cheap a while back. I knew nothing about the film but I was not disappointed.

"Fried Green Tomatoes" is the name of the film. It´s about a woman called Evelyn who meets an old woman in an nursing home and develops a friendship with her. At each visit Evelyn hears, from the old lady, stories from her past. The old lady shares an amazing story about a friendship between two girls called Ruth and Idgie. Hearing the story changes Evelyns life. It is really a wonderful film! It will bring a smile to your face, and at times a tear to your eye. Totally recommend it. It is one film that I will watch again. If you liked "The Notebook" you will like this too.
